We often hear ‘learn to love yourself,’ ‘the most important relationship you have is with yourself,’ ‘practice more self-love.’ Why is self-love is so important? I’ve always been a proponent of self-love and self-care and recently realized it’s impact.
Here’s why self-love is important (of course, this is all speaking from my own perspective):
We come into this world as energetic beings and through finding alignment with ourselves we can extend that to other aspects of our life. What helps create alignment? Loving ourselves.
Self-love doesn’t just mean spa days and vacations (of course I love those things and it’s always good to treat yourself). At it’s core, it’s self-expression, self-awareness and self-compassion. It also means following a career path that excites me, surrounding myself with positive and supportive people and doing things that assist in my personal growth. All of these things in alignment with my desires.
Through finding this alignment and showering ourselves with self-love we can create so much more for ourselves and those around us.
Here are a few ways I incorporate self-love/self-care into my days:
Meditation: this doesn’t mean completely eliminating thoughts – in fact, I don’t think that’s possible. Meditation is a time when I can quiet my mind as best as I can to create room for self-awareness and the manifestation of my desires.
Surround myself with positive people: I’ve made a very intentional point to remove anyone and everything from my life (to the best of my ability) who brings any sort of negativity into my life. Simply put, life’s too short for that.
Move my body: it’s incredible what a walk or even a stretch can do to improve my mood and help me get present. If I’m in a slump in the middle of a work day, I’ll get outside and go for a walk or do some form of workout that gets my heart rate up. It works for me, every time.
