Having traveled quite a bit over my lifetime, I have accumulated a list of must-haves for flights, even when I’m just taking a carry on with me. Airports and planes aren’t the most exciting part of a trip and there are things I just couldn’t do without. Here are the things I bring with me on every flight, no matter how long.
Slip Eye Mask
It’s rare for me to be able to fall asleep on a plane, even when I’m flying to Europe, but I always pack my eye mask just in case. When I’m unable to sleep, the eye mask allows me to rest my eyes and blocks out bright lights when I am able to. Click here to shop.
EO Hand Sanitizer + Wipes
These two items are the most important on this entire list. Airports and planes are gross – air is recycled, and seats and tray tables are rarely cleaned. I use hand sanitizer religiously during travel and wipe down my entire seat area before I sit on planes. Before becoming a loyal customer of EO, I was using Purell gel hand sanitizer, which was always a messy application and terrible smelling. EO’s lavender hand sanitizer is an easy, quick-drying spray application that smells heavenly and effectively sanitizes my hands during travel. Audiobook
Airplanes are the perfect place for me to listen to audiobooks. I don’t have wifi and no one is bothering me, so I use the opportunity to catch up on all of my books.
Noise Cancelling Headphones
With loud engines, screaming babies and the like, there is no way I would travel without noise canceling headphones. Honestly, I don’t know what I was doing before. My Bose noise canceling headphones allow me to have a peaceful travel experience while being able to listen to music and audiobooks. Click here to shop the Bose noise canceling headphones.
Eye + Face Mask
We all know that airplanes dry out the skin. On long flights, I always make sure to bring a face and eye mask with me to keep my skin hydrated so that I’m not landing in my destination with lizard skin. My favorite facemask is the Knesko Nano Gold Repair Collagen Face Mask and my favorite eye mask is the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Hydra-Gel Eye Patches.
Hair Tie
Self-explanatory, I think? My favorite are the Invisibobble hair ties – they don’t leave creases in my hair or rip my hair out. Click here to shop.
Makeup wipes
If by chance I end up falling asleep or am just not feeling my makeup anymore, I just remove my makeup. I’d rather have clean skin than clumpy mascara and uneven foundation. My favorite makeup wipes are the Simple cleansing facial wipes.
Side note: I don’t use makeup wipes on a regular basis since they aren’t very gentle, but on flights they’re great since they don’t utilize my liquid capacity and don’t take up too much space. Click here to shop.
Eye drops for contact lenses
For all of you that wear contacts, you know how importantthis one is. The air dries out my contacts, so I apply eye drops about every 2 hours. If I’m on a long flight, I’ll usually just wear my glasses and then put in my contacts when I’m about to reach my destination.
Facial Spray
This is more of a luxury item, but I love it. Facial sprays feel so amazing during and after long flights and help refresh the skin to keep it looking bright and hydrated. My favorite is the Avene Eau Thermale Avène Thermal Spring Water. Click here to shop.
Compression Socks
On longer flights, I’ll bring compression socks with me, which helps increase circulation and reduce swelling. It’s a cute look, I promise.
iPad
I love bringing my iPad on planes since it allows me to get some work done and watch movies. A day or two before my trip, I’ll download movies on Netflix and playlists on Spotify so that I can listen while in the air. I get a ton of blog post ideas and inspiration while flying so I use the notes section on my iPad to jot down my ideas.
