Last year I spent a couple of months abroad which gave me a ton of perspective and clarity with what I wanted to do with my life (for now). During this time I also realized I didn’t want to spend time doing anything that didn’t make me happy – that extends to every aspect of my life. From relationships, work, and even my own mentality, I wanted to spend as little as time possible doing things that didn’t make me happy. With this mentality and unwavering perseverance and ambition, I was dedicated to finding work that I was passionate about while growing my own business.
Having a blog was a goal I had in mind for a while but I never actually put the plan into action until the end of last year. Doing so has not only allowed me to share my passions and interests with a growing community of people that I enjoy interacting with, but fulfills me significantly.
While we all have to work to make a living, finding what your passionate about will make life just so much better. In this post I share my reasons on why you should follow your passions.
You’ll be happier
Writing for my blog and doing work that I love has just made me a happier person overall. We spend so much time at work and doing work we enjoy plays significantly into our level of happiness. Take some time to evaluate your work, where you’re at in your life, and who you spend the most time with (work or otherwise) and assess whether your circumstances are aligned with your standards.
If you’re not happy with what you’re doing on a daily basis, find a way to change your situation. If that means spending some time after work looking for another job or starting a business you’ve had in mind, put in the extra work to make it a reality – your future self will thank you for it. Not only will you be happier but in effect, the people around you will be too.
Life is too short
We’re here for such a short period of time (not trying to be depressing, but it’s true). Why not do what you’re passionate about instead of just going though the motions of day to day life and end up regretting not taking those risks while you had a chance.
If you’re unsure of what your passionate about, test the waters and try different things that interest you. You’ll never know what you like until you give it a try.
If you’re a student, internships are a great opportunity to do a test run in a career to see if it would be a career you would be interested in pursuing for the long haul. Being a high school or college student can be a confusing time – many get stressed and I remember this feeling. This is the best opportunity for you to try things that are high risk – you usually don’t have any serious obligations (family and a full-time career). Create that blog, start that business, do it all – now’s the time!
You might regret it if you don’t
One of my biggest fears is regret – regret of not trying something that could have been a success, regret of not following my passions, etc. While you are healthy and able, do that one thing that scares you and see where it takes you. Who knows, maybe it will become a huge success and guess what, maybe it won’t. At least you know you’ve tried it and can move on to something else.
Many people are discouraged to do things out of fear of what other people will think of them. This is the biggest hinderance towards achieving your goals. Learn to not give a shit about what other people think of you and do what makes you happy. Remove yourself from negative situations and surround yourself with positive and encouraging people.
I hope this post encourages you to go after your passions and create a life that fulfills you. I’d love to hear what you’re passionate about and how you’re creating your ideal life! Share with me down below.
