When we get to a state of self-love and appreciation, it seems as if things start to manifest more easily… quicker. It’s taken me some time to build this special relationship with myself and I continue to work on it as it’s really the most important relationship I have.
Here are a few things that helped me build a relationship with myself:
Trust Your Intuition and Follow Your Gut
When things really don’t feel right whether it’s a job, relationship or situation, I listen. This concept is related to a term I learned in my communication course at UCSB called Cognitive Dissonance. In brief, it means that our actions don’t align with our beliefs/values, which causes discomfort and unease. And while I dislike being in my comfort zone (getting out of that comfortable place is where growth happens), if something really feels off I’ll get rid of it as quickly as possible. Following my intuition has helped me build trust with myself which in turn increases confidence in my decision making ability. Understanding the difference between fear and intuition has been a constant and eye-opening journey.
Hold Yourself Accountable
Holding myself accountable to things gives me the sense that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. When I accomplish a goal I’ve kept myself accountable to, it encourages me to create larger goals and at the same time, increases the trust I have with myself.
When you hold yourself accountable for the small things, you’ll feel confident to reach further with your goals, which in turn will help you discover your potential. Put your faith and trust in yourself to make the decisions that are best for you.
Get Self-Aware
Do you know what you’re good at? What your weaknesses are? Getting really self-aware will guide you to focus on what you’re good at when it comes to work, get into the relationships that fulfill you and build a life that feels aligned. Instead of constantly battling your weaknesses and getting into careers and situations that feel draining, focus on your strengths to build the life that you desire.
