Brand partnerships have taken my personal brand to the next level. I’ve been able to get exposure from larger audiences, share about products I love with my audience and be a part of some amazing experiences.
As a blogger, figuring out things like brand reach out, SEO, etc. can seem like a struggle and slightly intimidating and don’t get me wrong – it was at first, but I’m here to make the process seamless for you.
Here are some tips on reaching out to work with brands:
Know your audience
How well do you know your audience? Get really familiar with your demographics – age, gender, income status, relationship status etc. Brands will ask for this information.
Find partnerships that align with your personal brand
My personal brand has evolved significantly over the past year. While I have never taken product or collaborated with a company that didn’t align with my brand, I’ve become even more selective. There are a few reasons for this: 1) I want my audience to very clear of my brand 2) I want to maintain trust with my audience 3) I’m not a salesperson. I use my platform to share about things I love, I’m not here to try to make a quick buck.
Look to partner with companies/brands that will be a good match for both parties.
Structure a partnership that benefits the company/brand you want to work with
As a new blogger, create content + provide exposure for free or for product. If there’s a brand you want to work with, don’t ask for money – many have limited budgets.
In your initial email, simply express interest in a collaboration. If they mention that they would be able to provide monetary compensation, great. If not, ask for product in exchange for content creation and exposure.
You don’t want to ruin your relationship with a company early on. As you grow, it’s appropriate to start asking for monetary compensation in exchange for your time. And at that time, you’ve already built a great relationship with the brand.
Create a Media Kit
A media kit is essentially a resume for your personal brand. It describes a little about you, your demographic, and your work. You can create your own media kit in Canva.
Reach out
You can either reach out via DM on Instagram or email – I recommend both. Initially, I reach out via Instagram to begin a relationship where I’m typically given an email to the person who handles partnerships.
For smaller companies, it’s been my experience that the owner runs the account, which gives me the opportunity to connect with them.
Over deliver
Once you’ve secured the partnerships, over deliver. If you’ve agreed to 1 post and 3 stories, deliver 3 posts and 12 stories. This will increase your likelihood of the brand/company wanting to work with you again as well as your exposure through their audience.
